## The challenge

Trupanion needed a custom platform for a large-scale pet photo contest that made it easier to collect, moderate, publish, and amplify user-generated content.

The challenge was not simply accepting submissions. Thousands of images had to move through review and approval, internal teams needed a reliable way to manage that work, and the public experience still had to feel simple and immediate. The platform also needed to make sharing easy for entrants while supporting public voting with built-in safeguards against manipulation.

## Our approach

DAS built the platform around the full lifecycle of the contest, from submission and review through publishing, sharing, and voting.

To keep thousands of submissions manageable, we created a centralized review system with multi-user permissions and automated image analysis for content safety, image quality, and indicators of AI-generated imagery. Final approval remains with the review team, and approved entries are automatically prepared for the public gallery.

The platform also automates entrant communications and tracks activity across the submission, sharing, and voting flow, giving the team visibility into how people engage with the campaign without adding manual reporting work.

For entrants, the experience stays simple and mobile-friendly, with sharing built directly into the campaign so participants can promote their entries to their own audiences.

Public voting is backed by behavioral monitoring, fraud detection, and forensic reporting for suspicious activity, while keeping the process straightforward for legitimate voters.

Because the platform is custom-built, it also avoids the volume-based licensing common to rented contest products. Participation can grow without introducing per-vote or per-user fees, while the platform remains flexible enough to support new campaign requirements each season.

## The outcome

The platform supports thousands of pet submissions and approximately 100,000 votes in a season, while giving Trupanion one system for managing the contest from entry through voting.

DAS has now supported multiple seasons of the contest, and the platform continues to evolve with the program. New review workflows, analytics, communications, sharing mechanics, and voting safeguards can be added without rebuilding the experience from scratch or moving into a new licensing tier as participation grows.
